Mike Minogue

Mike Minogue

Mike has worked in Aotearoa’s film and television industry for over 20 years, learning his craft on projects ranging from Lord of the Rings, King Kong, District 9 and the first two Avatars.

He wrote, produced and starred in the tv show ’Talkback’ alongside his Hauraki Big Show co-host, Jason Hoyte, and is an also a member of the Alternative Commentary Collective. As an actor he has starred in What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople and also received the Best Actor trophy for his performance as Officer Minogue in Wellington Paranormal at the 2019 NZTV Awards. His first feature as producer was the critically acclaimed Coming Home in the Dark which sold to Netflix.

He recently founded his own talent agency, Frank Management, which has made waves in a very short period of time.

Mike’s a funny man and his persona, and comedic timing is pitch perfect, but there is depth of character behind the gags. He is thoughtful and not afraid to show his vulnerability if it means helping others in their respective journeys.

As a speaker and MC Mike can oscillate between humour and the crisp delivery of admin with ease, ensuring your next event will be in safe, and occasionally silly, hands.

Behind the Big Show

Episode 112

On this episode of Between Two Beers we talk to Mike Minogue.

Mike’s a pretty talented man. He’s a creator, writer, producer and actor, a star of the Big Show on Radio Hauraki, and a member of The Alternative Commentary Collective.

You also might have seen him in What We Do in The Shadows, or as the lead character Officer Minogue in the spinoff TV show Wellington Paranomral and he’s recently produced the critically acclaimed film Coming Home in the Dark.

In this episode we talk about his late start in the arts, his emergency circumcision, relationship with alcohol, the loss of his father, what it’s like working with Jermaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Leigh Hart and Jason Hoyte, the most pivotal moment in his career and all the best stories in between.

Mike is someone Seamus and I find hilarious. His persona, and comedic timing in his drive show with Jase and Keyzie is pitch perfect, but this ep reveals the depth of character behind the gags. We talk about some areas of his journey that he hasn’t aired before, and the thoughtfulness of his answers and vulnerability he showed was quite inspiring. He’s a very impressive man, I think you’ll enjoy this one.
