5 thoughts on the latest batch of powerful episodes

1) The power of storytelling

Mea Motu’s story overpowered me. As I was wrapping up our episode, the tears came flooding out. Unexpected, and overwhelming, but real emotion... happy tears. I was reflecting on how this bubbly, charismatic, fun, driven (soon to be) world champion, with five kids, suffered the most horrific domestic violence, and survived to conquer the world – and share her story. And what a story it is. Long-form gave us the chance to tell it in full. Her ability to articulate her message made it one of our best.

2) The power of fight night

Fight night was epic. Mea invited us along to watch her title fight and the room was alive; emotional and tense as she walked out, emotional and proud as she won. Mea’s tears of joy in victory reflected one hell of a ride, and seeing a guest talk about it, then be about it, gave me serious goosebumps. We're incredibly grateful of all these awesome experiences this podcast journey is serving up.

3) The power of vulnerability

When we agreed to have somatic sexologist Morgan Penn on the podcast, we knew there would be a certain level of discomfort. Broadcasting open, vulnerable conversations about sex was new territory for us, and we weren’t sure how much we were willing to share about our private lives. But Morgan is a pro, and made it such a fun, insightful conversation that by the end we forgot the mics were there.

4) The power of feedback

And the audience's response to our vulnerability was epic:

"It's so important to talk about all this stuff without shame (which is easier said than done). But shows what legends you guys are willing to open yourselves up like that."

But the best stuff came from the men:

“Listened to Morgan today. I have a few learnings to try put into place over next few months to see if I can slightly improve the situation in a dire part of my marriage.”

“As a 44-year-old man, married for 10 years, I really learned something from this pod!”

5) The power of authenticity

Fletch and Vaughan are the same people off-air as they are on. And I’m not sure you can survive 19 years at the top of NZ radio if that wasn’t the case. Their power is their authenticity and their ability to make any conversation fun. It was probably the easiest ep we’ve had, as hosts. Everything you serve up turns to gold. And no surprise it’s been one of our most popular episodes. They don’t often do interviews together,  so we felt very privileged to get so long with them, sharing their epic rise.
